Kraków has more cycling infrastructure than most visitors expect. The Vistula riverbank routes are flat, tarmac and car-free. There is no traditional docked bike-share system in the city centre since 2019 — but alternatives exist, and a rental bike or e-scooter is the most practical option for visitors.

City bikes in Kraków 2026 — what actually works

The classic docked scheme (formerly LajkBike) closed in 2019. Two other systems operate:

LajkBike — monthly rental for longer stays: 33 PLN/month for a traditional bike, 89 PLN/month electric. Requires registration. ztp.krakow.pl/rower/lajkbike

Park-e-Bike — free electric bikes at Park&Ride transfer points. 7 stations, Freebike 3.0 app, advance registration and identity verification required. Good for combining P+R with cycling into the centre. ztp.krakow.pl/rower/park-e-bike

For visitors: private rental shops in the centre (several around the Old Town) or e-scooters (Bolt, Lime, Tier all operate in the city) are the easiest options.

Note: The Old Town cobblestones are rough on bikes. Through the centre it's worth dismounting and walking — especially across the Market Square and down ul. Grodzka.

Main route — Vistula Boulevards

Start near Wawel, head west through Dębniki to Zakrzówek and return along the north bank. About 12 km in a loop, no cars, views of Wawel and the Kościuszko Mound. Level: easy. Time: 1.5–2 hours. Surface: tarmac throughout.

Day trip — Tyniec Abbey

25 km return along the Vistula. Passes Zakrzówek (swimming, climbing), a nature reserve and several cafés along the way — destination is a Benedictine monastery on a limestone cliff above the river. Time: 3–4 hours. Return by the same route or bus 112.
